Travel to Western Australia
Travelling to Western Australia is
easy with access via land, sea and air.
The State's
capital,
Perth, is Australia's western
gateway.
Broome, in the State's
North West, is also a major
gateway to the attractions of the northern region, and
enjoys good air access from southern capitals. Broome is
also serviced with regular air services from the
Northern Territory capital, Darwin, which lies
approximately 1.5 hours east by air.
Perth Airport is the
international and regional gateway to Western Australia
located only 12 kilometres from the heart of Perth.
Within Australia
There are regular flights to Perth
from all major Australian cities and from many regional
locations within the State, making travel to Western
Australia simple.
From Australia's east coast
capitals, Perth is approximately four hours by air.
Western Australia's capital, Perth is easily
accessible by air from around Australia and from many
locations within the State.
Flights also operate
to the popular town of Broome in Australia's North West
from Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney.
Domestic airlines operating services to Western
Australia:
One of the
most exciting ways to get to Western Australia is by
rail. Perth is the western terminus for the legendary
Indian Pacific rail service operated by
Great Southern Rail, which
spans the entire continent from sea to sea.
The
three day trip is one of the world's great train
journeys, and visitors can board the train in Sydney,
Melbourne or Adelaide and travel across the country.
Departing from the East Coast, witness the beauty of
delightful vineyards, river lands and the expansive,
table-top flatness of the Nullarbor Plain, travel on
through the goldfields, rolling wheat lands and the
hills surrounding the
Avon River before pulling into
Perth.
Connecting WA
to the rest of Australia, the Eyre Highway is one of
Australia's great road trips. The highway extends from
Port Augusta in South Australia across the Nullarbor
Plain to
Norseman.
The
Savannah Way is one of
Australia's ultimate adventure drives, linking Cairns in
Tropical North Queensland with the historic pearling
town of Broome in Western Australia, via the natural
wonders of Katherine in the Northern Territory.
During summer
(November to February in the Southern Hemisphere),
Perth,
Broome,
Geraldton,
Exmouth and
Albany feature on world cruise
itineraries as part of Australian coastal cruise
packages. This presents a range of opportunities to
travel to Western Australia and explore the State by
sea.
